TL;DR we added 14,614 vessels from Alaska, Panama, and more to the Goldfish API this week. We now source from 4 more country vessel lists and have 3 new vessel output variables on the API. Interested? Scroll down to the Sandbar section to learn how to start testing in our free, open environment.
We’re adding to our huge vessel update from last week! The team is karate-chopping vessel data left and right to get it out the door and on the API ASAP. We’ll keep this update short, sweet, and spicy today.
New Sources
We added 4 country vessel datasets to the API this week. We now source from the Faroe Islands, Costa Rica, Panama, and Alaska (United States). This update required translating data from Faroese and Spanish, removing bad data like (INACTIVA)
from random cells, and creating a new schema.
“I lost track, what data does Goldfish incorporate?”
Let’s pause and refresh on everything available in the Goldfish vessels
function. As of today, we pull in, standardize, and harmonize vessel data from:
- 30 country vessel lists
- All major RFMO vessel lists
- 13 RFMO IUU vessel lists
- United States Withhold Release Orders
- Outlaw Ocean’s baddie vessel list
- And a whole lot more to come hi-ya
Output Variables
In this update, we added 3 new output variables to the API. They are otherID
, vesselFuelType
, and vesselEngineType
.
otherID
captures the unique vessel IDs found in country datasets. For example, this is where you can find US Coast Guard Numbers.
vesselFuelType
identifies whether a vessel has a gasoline or diesel engine.
vesselEngineType
calls out a vessel’s type of motor, such as outboard, stationary, or oars if you’re in a canoe.
With these additions, there are now 46 harmonized output variables in the `vessels` function. These variables are designed to answer questions that you, your supply chain, or your spreadsheet guru Larry might have about a vessel. And yes, these questions can be as nerdy as you want, we have the data to answer practically anything!
Take Me To The Sandbar
This update is live on the Sandbar! Head to the URL https://sandbar.goldfish.io/graphql# to start testing. This free, open, playground environment allows you to access a subset of data identified here and test all variables!
Production Please
For Goldfish users the update is now LIVE in production! Get your access token, examine the new data, then kick your feet up and relax! It's magic.
For more detailed information on variables, queries, and more, check out our fun, flirty, easter-egged, and updated API docs here.
